stage2Grand Rapids Christian Schools teachers and faculty commemorated Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 16, by going out into the community and making a difference!  The  morning began with a powerful service of singing and praising God together.  VIS coordinated their community service and had them go to local agencies such as Family Promise, Baxter Community Center, Emerald Meadows, Breton Village Green Apartments, and many more.  The focus this year was to provide them a relational experience in making  a direct difference in touching someone's life.  Upon their return, stories were shared of how they made a difference such as just by playing with kids, reading the Bible in Spanish to  an older hispanic lady, helping develop resumes, painting someone's finger nails, and just by talking with an isolated couple.  What a great example of sharing Christ's love in our community!

We are all called to be disciples of Christ in helping others in our communities. VIS was blessed in 2011 to help numerous church and school groups give back and provide a helping hand.  Here are just a few pictures that show some of the ways we were able to be "the hands of feet" of Jesus.

Vehicle Donation Program PDF Print E-mail

Did you know we have a way to help you with un-needed vehicles you don't know what to do with?  Or maybe you're looking for a way to make a donation to VIS but don't necessarily have the funds to do it?  VIS has a Vehicle Donation Program that is designed to help out in both of these situations.  We can take in your donated vehicle and you can use it for a deduction when you complete your taxes.  

It also can be helpful around the holidays where you may be visiting your older parents and it is determined it may not be the best thing for them to drive anymore.  In situations as these it's difficult to know what to do with the vehicle, especially if it's a bit older.  Donating it to VIS can be a very helpful thing for you so you don't have to hassle with dealing with the vehicle, as well as your older parents may really appreciate their vehicle going to a good cause. 

It's easy to donate a vehicle to VIS.  The VIS Vehicle Donation Program agent is Ed Ophoff of Ophoff Motors, located at 2921 Division Ave., Wyoming, MI  49548.  All you need to do is to call Ed at (616) 452-7761 and he will take it from there!  You will receive a written acknowledgment of your donation, and upon the sale of the vehicle you will receive a donation tax receipt.

We had a great group of volunteers in to help fold, stuff, and sort our year end appeal letters. This is a huge task and they not only accomplished it in record time, they had a lot of fun doing it!  We are grateful that they were able to help us out.  Thanks!

Leadership Training Event (LTE) PDF Print E-mail

On Thursday, September 29, VIS and CRC Home Missions hosted the annual Leadership Training Event (LTE) called "Body Builders."  The body of Christ needs to be strengthened and this year's LTE was designed to give the tools to church leaders to build up their churches as well as themselves.  It was well received and Christ's church was indeed strengthened!  Thanks to Joyce and Sarah from Home Missions who worked diligently in putting this together with us!
