Our annual Leadership Training Event (LTE), which we host with CRC Home Missions, will be held on Monday, September 17, 2012, beginning at 5:45 PM and is an event you and your church leaders will not want to miss! The topic this year is: "Washing Their Feet," taken from John 13:14, "...you also should wash one another's feet." The emphasis is how we are called to be servant-leaders in our churches. A dinner and registration time in Providence CRC's new gymnasium in Cutlerville will begin at 5:45 pm, after which we will be led in a time of worship and prayer by CRC Home Missions Director, Moses Chung, and the Sessions will be held after.

VIS had the honor of nominating Jerry Smitter for the 2012 Humana Starlight Award this past Thursday, April 12. Jerry exemplifies the meaning of the award in a senior citizen who gives to, and makes a difference in the community. Jerry has been a VIS volunteer for 17 years in helping out a family with many unique needs. We thank God for Jerry and the difference she has made!
Below are VIS staff members, Debbie Jones and Dave Ellens, VIS volunteer, June Bustraan, along with Jerry at the Awards Ceremony in Cascade.

Calvin College Boston Project Service Day |

A group of Calvin College students, who all served together past Spring Break in Boston, gave of their time this past Saturday in doing yardwork for a disabled woman on the North east side of Grand Rapids. Their student leader, Kristi Ellens, coordinated their efforts of carrying over their work in Boston to someone needing help in Grand Rapids. Kristi said their group really gelled together in Boston and they were able to meet both physical and spiritual needs on their trip. She said it was a great way to show the love of God while in Boston, and now in Grand Rapids. Click on the Photo Gallery on the left to see more pictures of their yardwork in Grand Rapids. We are excited to announce that on Wednesday, May 16, you can watch (well, actually listen and watch the slides) VIS live on the Web. On Wednesday, May 16, at 12:00 noon EST we will be a part of the CRCNA's "Wednesday Webinars" series. It is free, and easy, to register, and all you need to do is go to www.crcna.org/webinars and get yourself registered! Our topic is "Be an Effective Deacon in Today's Church," and will be a practical and useful aid to today's deacons. Check the link out to read more about it. You won't want to miss it! (The webinar will be archived and available to listen to later as well, although isn't it a lot more fun to listen to it live?!)

Grand Rapids Christian High John Zoerhoff Memorial Service Day |

On March 29, VIS coordinated the placement of 120 GRCHS senior students for their annual John Zoerhoff Memorial Service Day. After an opening service at the school, they went to the Ronald McDonald House, the Veterans Administration Home, Emerald Meadows, Douglas Walker Park, and Lifehouse Crystal Springs Assisted Living Facility. Each place they went they touched lives and made a difference! Reaching out in the name of Christ was truly fulfilled that day by the seniors of Grand Rapids Christian High!
